When Greg Munter, Sales Engineer at Coward Environmental Systems, Inc. “The space we were working with had some fin tube radiation that was added when they built the addition decades ago, along with an old through-the-wall air conditioning unit,” Greg explains. “But in the winter, they weren’t getting enough heat, and in the summer, the air conditioning unit was loud and needed to be replaced. So, I decided to get hands-on with one of our CESI products and help install an Ephoca Wall Mounted Pro.”
Removing Old Inefficiencies
Munter knew Ephoca would provide an easy, efficient solution. He helped his daughter remove the existing fin tube radiation, took out the aging through-the-wall air conditioning unit, and got rid of area space heather. The Ephoca unit was installed in the wall, providing both heating and cooling without the need for an external compressor.
“What makes Ephoca attractive is that it’s so easy to install,” Greg says. “We looked at other options, but they all required an outdoor unit. Given that my daughter’s home is a row house in the city with a very limited outdoor space, having to install an exterior condensing unit and run refrigerant lines would have been a major challenge – maybe impossible. With Ephoca, we just had to cut two small round openings in the wall to ventilate to the outdoors, and that was it—no additional wiring because existing AC unit circuit could be reused due to the efficiency of this unit. No interior vents to install. And no bulky equipment cluttering her backyard.”
Comfort and Efficiency in All Seasons
Before installing the Ephoca unit, the family had to rely on plug-in electric heaters in winter to supplement the fin-tube radiation, which was both inefficient and costly. With the new system in place, Munter saw an immediate improvement in heating efficiency.
“This system is much more efficient than the plug-in heaters they were using,” he notes. “And the bonus is that it’s also heating the hallway that connects the main house to the add-on, which was always too cold in the winter. Now the entire area is comfortable year-round.”
The unit was installed in a 14′ x 20′ space, but Munter says it’s easy to see its potential for various applications.
“If you have a room, apartment, or basement that needs heating and cooling, but you don’t have anywhere to put an outdoor condenser, this is a perfect solution,” he says. “Any unit that is relying on radiators or window units can quickly be upgraded with one sleek Ephoca HVAC unit.”
Simple Installation—No HVAC Technician Required

“We hardwired to the existing ac circuit, but it can literally just be plugged into the wall, like a window air conditioning unit if 120v or 220v outlets are available,” Greg explains. “And in our case, we didn’t even need a specialized HVAC guy—a handyman was able to install it. That’s how simple the setup is.”
