They needed to convert one of the pharmaceutical storage facilities in ways that allowed them to store a new pharmaceutical product.”

Different Specs for Different Spaces

This pharmaceutical project required the creation of a specialized storage environment that needed to maintain precise conditions.

“With this project, we faced a dehumidification challenge,” McManus says. “The end-user needed to maintain meticulous humidity and environmental conditions required by the process, and at the same time, they needed to condition the entire space meeting different specs. In other words, we needed to condition a room within a room and condition the air inside and outside the inner chamber at different levels.”

For this project, the inner room served as product storage, while the outer chamber was a workspace that needed to remain comfortable for employees. CESI worked with Seibu Giken DST to develop the best possible solution for this project.

“It wasn’t an especially large space,” says McManus. “So, we were able to use one of Seibu Giken DST’s smaller units, a flex-style unit. It allowed us to satisfy the conditions of the space and also include a post cooler to add conditioning in other areas when required.”

The Role of Desiccant Dehumidification

Seibu Giken DST specializes in desiccant dehumidification. Its solution enabled the facility to supply outside air and conditioned air for the process while also using the system to provide conditioned air in other areas.

“It was a challenge to meet the processor requirements while also meeting the humidity goals. The end user required an extremely low grain-per-pound humidity condition in the air. We needed to get all the way down to 13 grains per pound with a processor requirement at 50 degrees, which is extremely low.” McManus emphasizes, “Most HVAC systems cannot meet those specifications, but the Seibu Giken DST desiccant dehumidifier was able to meet all parameters.”
